Gorongosa’s Giant and Abundant Crocs

Crocs1After an incredible helicopter ride over Gorongosa Park, Max Finlayson (colleague of Rich Beilfuss - the park’s Director of Scientific Services), marvels at the abundance and size of Gorongosa’s crocs:

L.Uraima Croc copy_resized“I can say that I have never seen so many large crocodiles in the one place and some seemed to be as large, or even larger than those I've seen in northern Australia which are often regarded as the largest globally. The image of so many together is what stuck in my mind; this is not the situation in Australia where you see maybe a few together but most by themselves. It was certainly spectacular and adds to the image of Gorongosa as a place worth visiting - just gotta get those visitors out there amongst the crocs, and get them back safely!”
